Next we figured out were and when to go for most of the trip (based on weather constraints). Took us forever to find the tourist information office near freedom square (stopping at the synagogue on the way didn't help). The guy was not particularly informative..
Then we had lunch at 16:00 next to the hotel at a recommended place by the name of Machakaela (those Georgian names again..). We had mushroom dumplings (crap), bread pastry (ok) and beans (ok) and unknown cake (crap).
After a rest at the hotel we headed to the main train station to get night train tickets to Zugdidi (which is en route to Mestia, which is the target here). After getting there, it turned out we needed to have a passport with us. We didn't have one...
A word about transportation in Georgia: it appears the distances are short yet travel time is long. Train rides take longer than Marshrutkas, which are a type of minibus taxi. For example, this particular train ride takes about 9 hours to traverse 335KM...
Finally, in the evening we headed to Chabad house (which was hard to find, but finally recognized by the armed guards at the entrance) to celebrate the New Jewish Year. As to be expected, there were a lot of Jews there:) It was fun and amusing. The food was Jewish, so we had to grab dinner afterwords. A decision made on a whim next to the hotel, and so we winded up at the same place as at lunch, which proved to be unwise.
