2013_09_14 Saturday: Mestia - Cross and Lake hike

Today started with an early 7:00 o'clock breakfast. At 8:30 we (Sharon, Valeria, Nadav, and I) started out 8-hour hike that took 11 hours... We started in Mestia at 1412m and went up to a big cross located at 2222m. As usual, the views were stunning with about 360 degree panoramas of white maintain tops.

From the cross we continued further up to the "lake", which turned out to be more of a puddle. The puddle was at 2762m, which made this a 1350m climb up. We arrived at the puddle at 15:00, so it took us 6.5 hours up. Nadav has this app called "Soviet Military Maps", which is a GPS basically that is quite accurate in telling both altitude as well as waking distances. I would have installed it too, had it existed for iPhones...:(

Anyway, we hung out at the puddle for about 30min and then headed down. The descent wasn't much fun (at least not for me). Four hours later we were done.

As opposed to Omalo, this time we really took the bare minimum, which made life a lot easier. But still, it's been quite a hike.

To summarize, it was a rather long day and a somewhat challenging hike, but it was well worth the fantastic views.

TECHNICAL NOTE: can't upload photos due to connectivity issues. Will add them when possible. So stay tuned..:)
